Day 1: Arrive Hanoi - Private transfer without guide

Arrive at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, meet our driver and transfer to town for hotel check in.

Day 2:  Hanoi City tour (B,L) Group Tour

Morning, take a full day city tour. Start with the Ho Chi Minh Complex, containing the mausoleum of the nation’s founder, and his rural style residence with a house on stilts. Also part of this complex is the unique One Pillar Pagoda, built in 1049 in dedication to Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara or Buddha of Compassion and reminiscent of a lotus blossom rising from a pond. Next, head to the West Lake to visit Quan Thanh Temple built in the 11th Century to worship Taoist deity Xuan Wu who is portrayed with a 4-meter high black bronze statue aged over 340 years and Tran Quoc Pagoda, the oldest pagoda of Hanoi dating back to the 6th Century and located on an islet in the lake.

Afternoon, proceed to visit the Museum of Ethnology, which contains a rich collection of audio-visual documentation and more than 15,000 artifacts depicting life, culture, customs and belief of the 54 ethnic groups of Vietnam. Move on to the Temple of Literature, known as the first university of Vietnam built in 1070 by the Ly Dynasty to honor Confucius, sages and outstanding Vietnamese scholars. Next, head to Hoan Kiem Lake, the city’s center point whose name “The Return Sword Lake” originated from a legend of a sacred sword and home to a rare endangered giant turtle species and visit Ngoc Son Temple on the lake. Conclude the tour by discovering the Old Quarter of Hanoi and free time for shopping.

Note: On Monday and Friday mornings, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Ethnology Museums are closed and the Bat Trang pottery village will be arranged as a substitute.

Day 3:  Hanoi – Ha Long – Overnight on cruise (B,L,D) Group Tour

Morning, pick up from hotel at 8:00 AM and transfer to Ha Long by a luxurious mini bus and arrive in Ha Long City at 11:30 AM. Upon arrival, at Tuan Chau Port board the V’Spirit Cruise boat, enjoy welcome drinks and lunch with fresh seafood will be served right after on board. Room check in after lunch and around 01:00 PM, boat starts cruising the bay. Ha Long Bay meaning Descending Dragon Bay in Vietnamese as legend has it that it was where a holly dragon landed down from sky. The bay, famous as one of the world’s wonders and heritage sites whose formation dates back 500 million years, consists of around 2,000 karst islands and islets scattered over an area of 1,553 km2. Enjoying sighting the bay’s beauty up close and stopping to visit to Sung Sot Cave and swim at Titov Beach. Have dinner at sunset and relax on the boat.

Day 4:  Ha Long – Hanoi – Flight to Hue (B,L) - Private airport transfer without guide

Early risers can enjoy the splendid yet tranquil view of the bay at the crack of dawn over a cup ot tea, coffee or fruit juice. Breathe the sea’s fresh air, feel the morning breeze and hear the sounds of birds above and the gentle lapping waves below. At 08:00 AM the boat starts cruising the bay again before heading back to shore. At 12:00 noon, arrive at the dock, disembark and transfer back to Hanoi.  Arrive at the shuttle bus station in Hanoi around 04:00 PM to be picked up by our driver who will take you to the Noi Bai International Airport for a one-hour flight to Hue.

Hue, the former Imperial Capital of Vietnam for the 1802-1945 periods, is the last refuge of Vietnamese feudalism. It is known as a city of poetic beauty that blends a scenic landscape characterized by the Perfume River and surrounding mountains with an extremely rich historical legacy typified by numerous relics such as citadel, tombs and pagodas.

Day 5:  Hue City tour (B,L)

Group Tour:

Morning, pickup at your hotel at 07:30 AM for a full day city tour. Begin with visiting a series of royal tombs including Minh Mang Tomb, where Minh Mang, the 2nd Emperor of the Nguyen dynasty was buried and Khai Dinh Tomb, the burial site of Khai Dinh, Vietnam’s second-to-last king, which is the most elaborate compared to other kings’ tombs and Tu Duc Tomb, one of the Nguyen Dynasty’s finest architectural works nested in a pine forest where the 4th emperor of Nguyen family was buried. Next, visit a traditional martial art dojo named Van An to see a performance of hand to hand combat techniques which used to be a secret of royal guards. Proceed to two villages of traditional trades with one specialized in making conical hats and the other in making incense for worshiping rites. Buffet lunch at a local restaurant serving about 50 dishes of Asian, Western and Hue origins.

Afternoon at 01:30 PM, continue the tour by visiting Hue Citadel, a well-known UNESCO-recognized World Heritage Site, which is a 520 ha fortress-like grand complex built in the early 1800s which features three enclosures separated by heavy ramparts namely Kinh Thanh Hue (Civic City) as the outer, Hoang Thanh (Royal City) as the middle and Tu Cam Thanh (Forbidden City) as the inner. Next, visit Thien Mu Pagoda, a Buddhist monastery on the Perfume River which has been active since 1601. Conclude the tour with a boat cruise along the Perfume River back to the city’s downtown and immerse in the grand setting of the river and mountains in the distance. The tour ends at around 04:30 PM when the boat returns to the dock:

Day 6: Hoi An (B,L)

PRIVATE:

Morning, discover the ancient town of Hoi An. Once a bustling maritime commercial port of Asia between 15th and 19th centuries, Hoi An, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, is now a peaceful town of exceptionally well-preserved architecture, lifestyles and traditions. The town exemplifies a fascinating fusion of cultures between Vietnam and the outside world including China, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines. Included for your sightseeing will be the town’s iconic 400-year-old Covered Bridge with a small temple attached to one side as a prominent example of Japanese architecture, the Museum of Trade Ceramics which is an elegant Vietnamese style wooden house built in 1858 showcasing antique ceramic artifacts, the 200-year-old Tan Ky House typifying an ancient Chinese merchant residence, Chua Ong Temple built in 1653 by Chinese settlers to worship Guan Yu, an ancient Chinese general whose character stands for loyalty, bravery and justice. Enjoy strolling around the small streets of antique low tile-roofed houses, which reflect the town’s multi-cultural past.

Afternoon, continue the tour by exploring the countryside of Hoi An by a sampan river cruise. Stop on the way to visit Thanh Ha pottery village to see its traditional ceramic production trade still alive and thriving despite the 500-year passage of time.

Day 7: Hoi An – My Son (B, Light lunch) Group Tour

Morning, transfer about 40 km West of Hoi An to visit My Son Sanctuary, another UNESCO-recognized world heritage which was once a religious center of Cham people where royal ceremonies and burials were performed. The site now is a colony of partially ruined Hindu temples from the total of 70 constructed by Cham Kings between the 4th and the 14th Centuries in dedication to god Shiva. It is regarded one of the foremost Hindu temple complexes in Southeast Asia and is often compared with other temple heritages of Southeast Asia such as Angkor in Cambodia, Ayuthaya in Thailand or Borobudur in Java. Spend about two hours at My Son, seeing its vestiges and hearing stories about the Cham civilization. After leaving My Son, take a motorized boat excursion at 12:30 PM to visit Kim Bong village about 3 km West of Hoi An where carpentry has been practiced since the 16th Century as its trademark. Have a light lunch on the boat on the way. The tour ends at 02:30 PM when the boat returns and docks in Hoi An. Transfer back to your hotel.

Day 8: Hoi An – Da Nang – Saigon (B) - Private airport transfer without guide

Free time until transfer to Da Nang International Airport for flight to Saigon. After a one-hour flight, arrive at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Saigon and transfer into town for hotel check in.

Saigon or Ho Chi Minh city is the largest city and economic center of Vietnam always bustled with activities of modern life. It is where businesses converge and shoppers indulge themselves into unlimited choices. However the city also carries with it a rich historical legacy in contrast with its dazzling glamor.

Day 9:  Saigon tour (B) Group Tour

Morning, start a full day city tour beginning with the city’s oldest pagoda called Giac Lam which was built in 1744. Next, move on to Cho Lon or the Chinatown which is bustled with commercial activities. Stop at Thien Hau Pagoda which was built in 1760 to worship the Goddess of seafarers. Go to Saigon River to visit the Nha Rong quay where Ho Chi Minh left Vietnam in 1911 to embark on a journey in search for the road to national independence.

Afternoon, continue the tour by visiting the War Remnants Museum which features a comprehensive collection of the machinery, weapons, photos, and documentation of Vietnam War with the both the French and Americans, the Reunification Palace which was the former residence of the President of South Vietnam until end of April 1975, the Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica, a French-built neo-Roman cathedral, the Saigon Central Post Office, which was designed and constructed in the early 20th Century by the famous French architect Gustave Eiffel. The tour ends around 05:00 PM.

Day 10:  Saigon – Long Tan (B,L)

Morning, after breakfast at hotel, take a day trip to Ba Ria Vung Tau Province to visit the famous Long Tan battlefield. Stop at Nui Dat (SAS Hill) where an Australian Task Force as part of the American forces was based in 1966. This base was meant to separate the Viet Cong military from their supporters among local inhabitants. Pass by the Horseshoe artillery base to which access is not permitted due to live landmines have not been completely removed from soil here. Arrive in Long Tan village where a fierce clash known as the Long Tan battle took place between the defending Australian Task Force and the invading Viet Cong. The battle which started with artillery attack by Viet Cong and ensued with close range fighting last for two days of 17-18 August 1966 and inflicting heavy casualties on both sides. Visit the old battle ground in a rubber plantation and the Long Tan Cross Memorial which was erected by the Australian soldiers after the battle in remembrance of their fallen comrades. Continue to Long Phuoc village to visit the underground tunnels which were hand-dug by Viet Cong forces stretching for nearly two miles and enclosing facilities such as command centers, first aid clinics, food storage and foxholes.

After lunch, transfer back to Saigon.

Day 11:  Saigon – Vinh Long – Cai Be (Mekong delta) (B,L) Group Tour

Morning, pickup at your hotel to transfer about 136 km to Vinh Long, a riverside town in the vast Mekong Delta, the world’s largest delta. Take a boat cruise to lively Cai Be floating market where sellers and buyers bargain and exchange goods from their boats. Proceed through a fascinating maze of shady canals to Hoa Binh Phuoc Island. Beautiful landscape of zigzag canals, lush vegetation, peaceful villages and activities of rural life will make you a delightful sight. There on the island, visit some local farmers’ homes, interact with warm-hearted hosts and learn about their trades of bonsai gardening, tile and ceramic production and rice paper and coconut candy making. Have lunch and enjoy traditional music at a local riverside restaurant.

Afternoon, take a boat ride along the Mekong River to sightsee Vinh Long, known as a center of tropical fruits. Stop for a short visit to Vinh Long market and observe the ample supply of goods as well as the bustling activities of traders and shoppers. Cross My Thuan suspension bridge and drop by Mekong Rest Stop, a natural garden style restaurant-café complex, before going back to Saigon. The tour ends around 06:00 PM.

Day 12:  Saigon– Departure (B) - Private transfer without guide

Free time until transfer to Tan Son Nhat International Airport for departure.
