    Vietnam’s Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex has been officially recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Meeting UNESCO’s three criteria of which one for the cultural heritage and the others for the natural heritage, Trang An has become the 30th mixed heritage in the world and the first of this kind in Vietnam.
  • Buddha’s Birthday Convention in Vietnam

    Vietnam has for the second time hosted the UN-sponsored Buddhist convention called the 11th UN Days of Vesak and themed as "Buddhist Perspective towards Achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals". The convention took place May 7-11, 2014 at Bai Dinh Pagoda in the Northern province of Ninh Binh drawing attention across Vietnam and around the world.
  • More VAT refund booths for foreign tourists in Vietnam

    The Ministry of Finance has drafted a circular to further its VAT (value added tax) refund project for foreign tourists. The project, which started in July 2012, has been offering a 30 day VAT refund to foreign tourists on locally made purchase of goods worth VND2 million, an equivalent of US$95 each. So far, refunds can only be sought from the Customs at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat Airport and Hanoi’s Noi Bai Airport. Under the new circular, more refund booths and duty-free shops will be opened at airports in Da Nang, Cam Ranh, Nha Trang and a number of international seaports to provide minimum refund access. The refund timeframe will also be extended to 60 days.

    I have been to Ha Long Bay in Vietnam before but just staying on shore except for visiting Tuan Chau Island linked to the mainland by a short road. My regret was that I have not seen the bay far out from a boat. Since I had only one day in my schedule to visit the bay, helicopter is the only option for transport though being expensive.   • ‘Mien luon’ is flavor of Hanoi

    VIETNAM - Mien luon (vermicelli made of cassava served with fried eels) is a favorite dish of Hanoians which is available in selected city eateries.

    To prepare, the fresh eel after being disemboweled and cleaned will be cut out of its bone. You then cut its meat into slices then mix them with spices, pepper and corn flour. After a while, you fry them until they turn golden and crispy.

    The Perfume Pagoda or Perfume Temple (Vietnamese: Chùa Hương) is a vast complex of Buddhist temples and shrines built into the limestone Huong Tich mountains. It is the site of a religious festival which draws large numbers of pilgrims from across Vietnam.[1] The centre of the Perfume Temple lies in Huong Son Commune, My Duc District, former Ha Tay Province (now Hanoi). The centre of this complex is the Perfume Temple, also known as Chua Trong (Inner Temple), located in Huong Tich Cave.[2]
