Buddha’s Birthday Convention in Vietnam

Vietnam has for the second time hosted the UN-sponsored Buddhist convention called the 11th UN Days of Vesak and themed as "Buddhist Perspective towards Achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals". The convention took place May 7-11, 2014 at Bai Dinh Pagoda in the Northern province of Ninh Binh drawing attention across Vietnam and around the world.

In 1999, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution recognizing Vesak Days as an international event of culture, religion and world peace with triple celebrations horning the birth, enlightenment and passing away of Shakyamuni Buddha.
The 11th UN Days of Vesak in Vietnam featured a wide range of activities such as Buddhist art exhibition, flower parade, traditional art performances, Buddha bathing ceremony, vigil for peace and religious tour to Vietnamese Buddhist heritages. The event attracted around 10,000 participants including Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns, scholars and followers from nearly 100 countries and regions. It was also chance for Vietnam to promote its culture, people and spiritual tourism to the world.
