More VAT refund booths for foreign tourists in Vietnam

The Ministry of Finance has drafted a circular to further its VAT (value added tax) refund project for foreign tourists. The project, which started in July 2012, has been offering a 30 day VAT refund to foreign tourists on locally made purchase of goods worth VND2 million, an equivalent of US$95 each. So far, refunds can only be sought from the Customs at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat Airport and Hanoi’s Noi Bai Airport. Under the new circular, more refund booths and duty-free shops will be opened at airports in Da Nang, Cam Ranh, Nha Trang and a number of international seaports to provide minimum refund access. The refund timeframe will also be extended to 60 days.
